Track Name: Trolley Car
when everything you are
lives to drive a trolley car
the sidewalk softens underneath your feet

I’m thinking about my footsteps on the street

when the fire you collect
doesn’t leave you circumspect
but blazing trails to candy-coated stars

you smile and ride the rails
soapbox ventures, shoebox tales
populate your conversations your concerns and where you are

I think about you while I’m driving driving in my car

and I’m shaken in my shirt
future grabs me by the shoulders
in his eyes, his soul he smolders
big bad boulders bring the hurt

I am shaking in my shoes
future grabs me by the wrist
drags me off into the mist
and insists I toss my blues

yeah, he’s coming after you

when everything you’re not
shows you everything it’s got
a spring storm rages underneath your skin

hail to the clouds
raindrops riot on on the windshield
each impact lets a voice into the wind

disdain, dissent, and disarray
do not disarm the disillusion
deeply dissolved into my blood

and I’m thinking about everyone I love

and I’m shaken in my shirt
future grabs me by the shoulders
in his eyes, his soul he smolders
big bad boulders bring the hurt

I am shaking in my shoes
future grabs me by the wrist
drags me off into the mist
and insists I toss my blues

he’s coming after you!
Track Name: Lined Paper
I tried to draw a picture on this page
but it’s now erased, and that’s the end

this paper won’t let me take chances on people or pencils
or places I’ve never been

as perspective now eludes me
the shapes disappear from my mind
like the look in your eyes
when you signal the softest goodnight

may you dream tears of joy and delight
or anger and sadness if you like
but me I’ve got nothing but
lined paper in my sights

it’s all one emotion, the rest and commotion
the starting and the stopping of your heart

while I sit hunched over the mean old lined paper
lacking the will to commit acts of art

as perspective now eludes me
the shapes disappear from my mind
like look in your eyes
when you signal the softest goodbye

may you cry tears of joy and delight
or anger and sadness if you like
but me I’ve got nothing but
lined paper in my sights

I couldn’t draw anyway
so why did I bother today
to dig out the mean old lined paper
that takes my ideas and steals them away?
Track Name: 1961
slip a sock onto my left foot right foot
I am going to the store
keep in mind I’ll have to duck and cover
when I open up the door

I remember looks of lifeless terror
trading eyes around the room
as they were calling out mayday mayday
unanticipated plans for public doom

the year was 1961
a quiet call came whispered the news
death had fallen from the sky
while you put on your plastic shoes

now I’m having thoughts of lifeless terror
as I lie down in my bed
a single toggle switch, a single error
and we could all be dead

the year was 1961
a quiet call came whispered the news
death had fallen from the sky
put on my special plastic shoes
aaaaaaaaaagggghhhhhhh
Track Name: Quick, Before I'm Dead
here I am lyring on the floor
playing my 1970s guitar
and it’s had so much more
experience than I have

I’m a kid stumbling wide eyed through life
I’m a man
looking for some new insight
to write down
quick, before I’m dead
search my entire head
for something that’s never been said
try as I might

I don’t know why I can’t write
still I have to find something to occupy me tonight

did you see that bird fly overhead?
you asked me
no I was stuck in my head
looking down
gaze fixed upon the ground
my head up in the clouds
you pull me right back down
and I am alright

my old friend he is terminal
40 years old
now the glue comes unstuck
and he folds
cracked ribs, they lead the way
too sick to save they say
on his every dying day
I’ll hear him sing

here I am lyring on the floor
playing my 1970s guitar
and it’s had so much more
experience than I have
Track Name: The Ballad of Norman D. Wallis
I was on my way to meet
a friend down on tenth street
when a masked man
crept up from behind

he punched me, kicked me
took all my money
he bruised me and broke me
and left me to die

no one gets away from a man in a mask
and I ask myself why
whoa, I’ll give it a try

as I stared up at the ceiling
in crept a strange new feeling
I
wanted revenge

I made my own mask
and trained for a new task
soon I would take to
the streets

no one gets away from a man in a mask
and I ask myself why
whoa, I’ll give it a try

I was walking down the street with my mask pulled down tight over my face looking for evildoers to stop dead in their tracks, when I saw the man that bashed my face in and I was scared but I knew exactly what I had to do

no one gets away from a man in a mask
and I ask myself why
whoa, I’ll give it a try
yeah I gave it a try
Track Name: Tree Song
something’s just not right
as I watch the blackest crows take flight
pronouncing another
dead trees serve as their runways
I watch them run away
they’re busier than me you know

dehydrated trees
whispering in response to the gentle breeze
letting go, burying their
dead leaves raining down
decomposed, soaked up by the ground
emulating what they crave so
much

when fall comes in july
one by one I watch them die
a flame is extinguished before it ignites

I see it in the leaves
but I feel it in the air that we breathe
abandoned dreams, left out in the
sunlight braking through
it’s beautiful, but it’ll kill you
we need a certain balance to survive

In a state of drought we all start to doubt
our true colors
in a state of doubt we forget all about
our true colors
no red, orange, or yellow
no our true colors don’t show
anymore

extinguished before we ignite
Track Name: Special Plastic Lie
come along with me
and we’ll go and see
a special plastic place
where your soul gets erased

where all your hopes and dreams
float within your reach

for a happy free facade
I waited in a line
speakers, voice of god
sold me a special plastic lie

this place is not so new
it lives inside of you

now you came with me
and you got to see
how quickly, quietly
you’re thrown into the sea

and if you’re stupid enough to open your mouth
don’t let the water in

they can’t take your fists
and they can’t take your heart
you’ve got your consciousness
Track Name: Willingly
As
summer comes to a close
I can’t help but notice
that the leaves
weren’t as green as they used to be
but then there’s me
Most of mine are dead and gone
dead and gone

but that’s alright
with me
I’ll watch them float
off slowly

And when I’m bare
I’ll be home those who fly
and keep a watchful eye
until the sky
opens up
old wind whispers in my ear
and I know I’m finished here
finished here

I will fall
willingly
and I’ll return to the earth
fulfilling the

endless cycle of

living and dying
laughing and crying
helping and hurting my peers
I won’t shed a single tear

But they want to take that away
Oh, the words that I wish I could say

I’ve made up my mind that people are maligned and I stand resolute
I’ll stick to my roots as they start up their saws and I’ll give one final salute
As I’m martyred and murdered by force and by choice

I’ll run from no one
though it’s never been done
and I don’t even have a voice
or a say in this

I still fall willingly
and I’ll return to the earth, fulfilling the
endless cycle of
living and dying
laughing and crying and
helping and hurting my peers

I’ll shed just a couple tears
Track Name: Untitled
one two three four
Track Name: Goodbye
a friend’s imagination made
the south dakota summer rains
come rolling down and wash away
my fear of waking up

trading words and songs and sighs
we strummed and sang and fantasized
about packing bags and cutting ties
and running into the wind

no shoes too big
footsteps too faint to follow

but I don’t know how to say goodbye
so I’ll sit just tight and bide my time

remember that kid I went to school with
who spoke his mind, didn’t give a shit
about checking boxes off his list of
of prep school promises?

he needed help, a heart lonely
he couldn’t let that revolver be
and oh my god, I can’t believe
they shot him right in the head

it was an accident
but no easier to swallow

and to this day I have never said goodbye
so I’ll just sit tight and wait to die

I woke up
oh my friend
you just up and ran
away

RUN!

RUN!
